Throwback Thursday - Blackbean Punches Drew Garabo

Remember this?

#TBT It's Throwback Thursday Monsters style: From RadioInk.com This happened years ago on a Friday night on Church Street where Drew was hosting an St. Patrick's Day event in front of Chillers.

Police in Orlando, Florida report that O-Rock 105.9 FM's Drew Garabo was attacked this week by one of 104.1 FM's morning personalities, Carlos "Blackbean" Navarro. Navarro was charged with simple battery after he allegedly rushed a stage at an event and punched Garabo, breaking his nose.

"I was hosting an event on Church Street when out of nowhere I was physically attacked," Garabo said. "As a result of this attack, I received a fractured nose."

The police report indicates Navarro told police that Garabo called his girlfriend a name.

Russ Rollins Sued By Estranged Wife Over On-Air Process Server Bit

Russ Rollins Sued
From AllAccess.com: The estranged wife of iHEARTMEDIA Talk WTKS-F (REAL RADIO 104.1)/ORLANDO morning host RUSS ROLLINS says that his JANUARY 30th bit claiming to have been served divorce papers on the air wasn't "real" enough, and she's hired attorney GLORIA ALLRED to sue him and the station over it.

The ORLANDO SENTINEL reports that SAMANTHA BOOMER is alleging that while she wanted the divorce to be a private matter, ROLLINS, longtime host of "MONSTERS IN THE MORNING" on the FM talk station, got a process server to enact the presenting of the papers on the air, prompting social media backlash against her.
The station issued a correction in MARCH after BOOMER complained, but BOOMER filed suit THURSDAY and ALLRED called a press conference FRIDAY to tell reporters, "SAMANTHA has been forced to suffer unfair and defamatory broadcast bullying for too long from those who would use the power of the microphone as a weapon against her."
BOOMER said that ROLLINS and the station "decided to take something that is painful, personal and private and make it public entertainment for profit and ratings.  This public disgrace and embarrassment has caused so much pain and disruption that I had to contemplate moving my family from the community that I love."

ROLLINS' lawyer JONATHAN SIMON told the paper that the suit is groundless because what ROLLINS said was true and added that the couple actually began divorce proceedings in 2014 and reached a settlement, but tried a reconciliation that failed, prompting the second filing by BOOMER; "Had they done what they should have done and followed the 2014 marital settlement agreement," SIMON said, "RUSS would never have been served with anything."

Russ Rollins facing domestic abuse accusations

Attorney: Radio Host Russ Rollins facing domestic abuse accusations.

From WFTV: SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — Channel 9 learned a popular radio host is facing domestic violence accusations in a messy divorce which he discussed on air.

Now Russ Rollins’ wife’s attorney is demanding transcripts of the “Monsters in the Morning” shows. The radio station posted video of Rollins supposedly being surprised by divorce papers that outline domestic abuse claims.

“Wow so she had me served on the air. That’s very nice,” Rollins said in the video.

The radio show host acts surprised to see the divorce papers live in his studio, but an affidavit from the process server seems to debunk that story.

The man said Rollins knew what he was doing and invited him to the studio.

The affidavit from the process server says Rollins picked the time and place to be served with his divorce papers and only acted surprised.

Channel 9 asked Rollins’ attorney if he was making the allegations a bit for his show.

“I don’t think at that point he realized what allegations were in there. He just got served with a pile of papers and was in some shock,” said Robert Evans.

The papers claim Rollins battered his estranged wife by choking and striking her.

It lists seven specific dates it allegedly happened.

The Sheriff’s Office sent Channel 9 a 911 call from one of the alleged incidents. “I need a restraining order,” said Samantha Rollins to a 911 dispatcher.

In the call, she said she wanted it kept quiet.

“I can’t have it go public. He’s a public figure. I don’t want it going public,” she said.

Evans said the abuse allegations are false.

“I know that the police were called and (they) investigated and did nothing,” he said.

Rollins was never charged with anything his wife alleges in the divorce.
